May 18, 2005 - The following comes not from Hamas, not from Islamic Jihad, not from any of the so-called "militant" groups, but from official Palestinian Authority Television, a broadcast of a Friday sermon just this month. It is not merely an attack on Israel, but an attack on all Jews. It is not merely an attack on all Jews, but an attack on the entire non-Muslim world.
Sheikh Ibrahim Mudeiris, a paid employee of the Palestinian Authority, said the following in his official Friday Sermon broadcast this month on Palestinian Authority TV:
Allah has tormented us with "the people most hostile to the believers" - the Jews. "Thou shalt find that the people most hostile to the believers to be the Jews and the polytheists" [Qur'an 5:82]. Allah warned His beloved Prophet Muhammad about the Jews, who had killed their prophets, forged their Torah, and sowed corruption throughout their history.
With the establishment of the state of Israel, the entire Islamic nation was lost, because Israel is a cancer spreading through the body of the Islamic nation, and because the Jews are a virus resembling AIDS, from which the entire world suffers.
You will find that the Jews were behind all the civil strife in this world. The Jews are behind the suffering of the nations.
Ask Britain what it did to the Jews in the early sixth century. What did they do to the Jews? They expelled them, tortured them, and prevented them from entering Britain for more than 300 years. All this was because of what the Jews did in Britain. Ask France what it did to the Jews. They tortured them, expelled them, and burned their Talmud, because of the civil strife the Jews wanted to spark in France, in the days of Louis XIX. Ask Portugal what it did to the Jews. Ask Czarist Russia, which welcomed the Jews, who plotted to kill the Czar - so he massacred them. But don't ask Germany what it did to the Jews. It was the Jews who provoked Nazism to wage war against the entire world, when the Jews, using the Zionist movement, got other countries to wage an economic war on Germany and to boycott German merchandise. They provoked Russia, Britain, France, and Italy. This enraged the Germans toward the Jews, leading to the events of those days, which the Jews commemorat today.
This tirade against the Jewish people rivals the worst throughout the tragic history of anti-Semitism. Several things are noteworthy: While Muslims frequently criticize non-Muslims for quoting verses from the Qur'an apart from their historical context, this is precisely what the Sheikh does in quoting Qur'an 5:82 to justify hatred of all Jews today. Such use of the Qur'an is commonplace in Muslim preaching. And the Jews are not the Sheikh's only target. The word "polytheists" in the same verse has become code for Christians, who according to Islam are guilty of worshiping many gods, the worst possible sin one can commit. Qur'an 5:17 specifically calls Christians blasphemers, and especially today the political implications of this are profound.
Comparing Jews to a disease, accusing the Jewish people of conspiracies to destroy and take over governments, are classic anti-Semitic themes that were even favored by the Nazis. As to the Nazis themselves, the Sheikh actually blames the Jews for provoking them and unleashing them on the world.
This official Palestinian Authority broadcast attacks the entire Jewish people and cannot be explained as criticism of Israel only. It is clear evidence against the Palestinian claim that they are only protesting an Israeli occupation. The agenda of extremist Islam is far broader than Israel, and even than the Jews. The Sheikh tells us in his sermon's conclusion:
We have ruled the world before, and by Allah, the day will come when we will rule the entire world again. The day will come when we will rule America. The day will come when we will rule Britain and the entire world - except for the Jews. The Jews will not enjoy a life of tranquility under our rule, because they are treacherous by nature, as they have been throughout history. The day will come when everything will be relieved of the Jews - even the stones and trees which were harmed by them. Listen to the Prophet Muhammad, who tells you about the evil end that awaits Jews. The stones and trees will want the Muslims to finish off every Jew.
The Sheikh, a paid employee of the Palestinian Authority, is calling for Muslims to conquer America, Britain, the entire Christian West. And he is not alone. This Sheikh and others like him preach similar sermons throughout the year in Gaza, in Jerusalem, in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere. And this Sheikh wants more than just a conquest of Christendom. He wants another Holocaust. Referring to an infamous hadith (Sahih Muslim, 41:6985) often used to justify hatred of Jews he states: "Listen to the Prophet Muhammad, who tells you about the evil end that awaits Jews. The stones and trees will want the Muslims to finish off every Jew."
The Palestinian Authority shamelessly continues to violate its obligation to put an end to anti-Jewish incitement, a commitment it made since the Oslo Accords and has never honored. Not only has it not taken the appropriate steps to end the incitement, it actually sponsors it. What kind of peace can possibly happen when such hatred is preached in the mosque and on TV week after week after week? When Israel finally withdraws from Gaza, what kind of anti-human society, where such hate-filled words in the name of God are routine, will arise to fill the vacuum?
This officially sanctioned preacher has warned us all. These are his words, not mine: Palestinian hatred and the ambition for Muslim conquest do not stop with the Jews. We would do well to take him seriously. After all, he and many others believe they are preaching nothing less than the sacred word of God.
